- Add-on Module
In many areas of modern scientific practice, it is crucial to document information precisely and in a machine-readable format and to search through it efficiently. This lecture provides a fundamental introduction to two essential tools that can significantly ease these tasks: Markdown and Regular Expressions.
Markdown is a simple yet powerful markup language that allows you to format text quickly, efficiently, and in a machine-readable way while maintaining human readability. The advantage of Markdown lies in its simplicity, broad applicability, and high transformability—whether for brief notes, scientific reports, or even publishing papers. In this course, you will learn the basic syntax of Markdown, enabling you to structure and clearly present text elements such as headings, lists, links, tables, and code blocks.
The second part of the course is dedicated to Regular Expressions. This powerful tool allows you to find and, if necessary, manipulate specific patterns within any string of characters. Regular Expressions are applied in various fields, from simple keyword searches to complex analysis and processing of data sequences. You will learn the basic syntax of Regular Expressions, enabling you to efficiently search for specific strings and automatically modify texts. For researchers who need to analyze large amounts of data or process complex texts, Regular Expressions are an indispensable tool.
The course does not require any special prior knowledge, but it is aimed at participants who already have basic computer skills and are eager to learn new tools that can significantly simplify their daily work.
Please note that this course will be held in German.
